Charge Point Registry will grow

Next Green Car have been announced as the new managers of the National Charge Point Registry (NCR) on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

From this month (October), Next Green Car will take responsibility for managing the NCR and overseeing the next phase of development of the UK’s official database of electric vehicle charging locations. The main objectives of Next Green Car taking over management of the registry are to improve data quality as well as data coverage.

The NCR, which was established by the UK Government in 2011 to provide a publicly available database of charge points, has already played a key role in supporting the development of the UK EV market. It goes without say that continuation and improvement of the database is highly important to increasing the UK adoption of electric vehicles.

Announcing the awarding of the contract, Dr Ben Lane, Director of Next Green Car, said: “We are delighted to be taking over the responsibility for managing the National Charge Point Registry on behalf of the UK Government and fully appreciate the NCR’s key role in supporting existing and prospective EV users across the UK.”

In managing the NCR, Next Green Car will use its own in-house web-development and data management team, and will be supported by Boson Media, a web-development company with extensive experience in designing bespoke business software solutions.
